A study by Impreva has revealed that in December 2009 32 million passwords were leaked after a major hack atempt.
The Hacker released these via the internet exposing some real problems for some users who fail to think carefully when choosing thier password. Imperva took the list and carried out a study with the aim of interogating there vunrability to security.
The Shortness and simplicity of passwords means many user select credentials that means they are susceptible to basic,brute force attacks.
Key Findings :
- 30% of users choose passwords conataining less than six characters.
- 60% choose thier passwords from a limited number of alpa-numeric numbers.
- nearly 50% of users used slang words, dictionary words, the most common used was 123456 and Rockyou.com.
