As a liverpool fan its pretty much said that we are very good at sniffing out a potential star or even a bargain, something the late Bill Shankly was very good at. So please forgive me for continuing to disect the purchase of Aquallani.
Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani has signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until the summer of 2013.
The 24-year-old has struggled with injuries for much of the current campaign and has not started a game since late January, but has still been linked with a number of other clubs.
Aquilani told tuttomercatoweb: “I thank president Rosella Sensi for giving me the opportunity to continue a dream in my city with the team that belongs in my heart.
“I want to give my best for these fans, something I have not been able to do because of my physical problems.”
Italy international Aquilani has spent the whole of his professional career with his home town club, although he spent the 2003-04 season out on loan with Triestina.

Sunday 26 November 2006
AS Roma and Italy Under-21 midfielder Alberto Aquilani could be out of action for the next two months after damaging ligaments in his left knee in training on Saturday.
Misses Valencia tie
The 22-year-old, who made his full Italy debut in the recent friendly against Turkey, will miss his side’s final UEFA Champions League Group D tie against Valencia CF on 5 December, a match the Giallorossi need to draw to qualify for the knockout stage.
Key player
A product of Roma’s youth system, Aquilani has played ten Serie A games and five in the UEFA Champions League this season, as well as helping the Italy Under-21 side qualify for the 2007 European Under-21 Championship in the Netherlands next summer.
Monday 19 February 2007
Alberto Aquilani has been ruled out of both legs of AS Roma’s UEFA Champions League tie against Olympique Lyonnais after picking up a thigh injury.
Training injury
The Italian Under-21 international was due to return for action for the first time since damaging knee ligaments in November before he damaged his left thigh in training on Sunday, an injury that is expected to keep him on the sidelines for a month. The 22-year-old has played in ten Serie A games and five UEFA Champions League games this season. A product of Roma’s youth system, the midfielder is likely to be an important member of the Italy squad at this summer’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals in the Netherlands.
Thursday 23 October 2008
AS Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani will miss the UEFA Champions League game against Chelsea FC at the Stadio Olimpico after injuring his left thigh during Wednesday’s meeting of the sides in London.
Three-week absence
Aquilani limped off after 61 minutes of the Giallorossi’s 1-0 Group A loss and, following tests in Rome today, he is expected to be sidelined for three weeks. The 24-year-old Italian international will therefore be unable to help Roma avenge the defeat by Chelsea and improve on their current third place in the group on Matchday 4, 4 November. He has made seven Serie A appearances this season, scoring two goals, as well as featuring in all three of Roma’s UEFA Champions League matches.
