Knitting is a technique of producing fabric from a strand of yarn or thread. Unlike weaving, knitting does not require a loom nor other large equipment, making it a valuable technique for nomadic and non-agrarian peoples.
The oldest artifact with a knitted appearance is a type of sock. It is believed that socks and stockings were the first pieces produced using techniques similar to knitting. These socks were worked in Nålebinding, a technique of making fabric by creating multiple knots or loops with a single needle and thread. Via [Wiki]

The Poetry Society rolled out its giant centenary poem at the British Library, London, on 7 October 2009. Revealed in its full glory, the eye-popping, 13 x 9 metre, hand-knitted version of Dylan Thomas’s ‘In my Craft or Sullen Art’ (which can be read in full below) stopped passers-by in their tracks and quickly drew an admiring crowd. This included knitters and crocheters who had helped to make the piece (and for whom it was the first opportunity to see it fully assembled), as well as the national press.

SHANGHAI: Over 20 superstars and fashion elite wearing delicately designed chocolate clothes on the theme “Opera” were the highlight of the start of the 15th Paris Salon du Chocolat in Shanghai yesterday, the world’s biggest chocolate event.
Started 15 years ago in Paris, the Salon du Chocolat has now been hosted in New York, Tokyo and Moscow, as well as Beijing in 2005.
However, it has taken another five years for this worldly chocolate event to finally come to Shanghai, where many of the French companies in China are located. via [chinadaily]

The Put your foot down campaign teamed up with YCN and artist Riitta Ikonen to turn the hundreds of shoes we received into a fantastic work of art.
More than 15 million women are living with HIV globally and every half minute another becomes infected. Widespread violence against women and girls is at the heart of these statistics. On World AIDS Day 2008, ActionAid decided to do something about this, with the launch of our Put your foot down campaign.
Working with young artist Riitta Ikonen and YCN, we created a piece of art using the shoes you sent in. The finished product, an installation which uses customised shoes to tell the stories of women affected by violence and HIV and AIDS, was unveiled on International Women’s Day 2009 (8 March) at the Department for International Development.

Snowmen according to Wiki A snowman is an anthropomorphic snow sculpture of a human. They are customarily built by children as part of a family project in celebration of winter. In some cases, participants in winter festivals will build large numbers of snowmen. Because a snowman is short-lived, it is a good example of popular installation art.
